
Silver Stage Players calls Elko, Nevada home. Elko has often been called "a small town in splendid isolation." It was deemed the "Best Small Town in America" by an independent, national publication. The city of Elko is home to nearly 22,000 residents while Elko County's population exceeds 52,000 people.
Elko rests at 5,060 feet above sea level with the Ruby Mountains towering over 11,000 feet. The Elko area is 11.5 square miles while the county consumes more than 17,135 square miles. The lowest average temperature throughout the area is 25 degrees F in the winter and its high average of 71 F in the summer.
Elko is situated in the Great Basin of Nevada and is considered the
high desert. Rainfall averages 9.93 inches annually with the majority
being snow. Expect cool nights any time of the year while days are mostly
sunny. Temperature variations between days and nights can be extreme.
Sometimes as much as 50+ degrees F. Even more extreme temperatures can
hit the area. There are days over 100 degrees F in the summer and we
have seen the area sink into the -20's F in the coldest winters.

Elko area has everything you want and more. You could never guess
while driving 80mph on the freeway that mere minutes from Elko are the
majestic Ruby Mountains. The Rubies have been called the "Alps
of Nevada" and are some of the tallest mountains in the state. The
region is a Mecca for fishermen, hunters, hikers, climbers, back-packers,
rock-hounds, extreme skiers, off-road driving enthusiasts, water skiers,
and explorers alike. The Jarbidge Wilderness just 60 miles north of Elko
is a protected and pristine Alpine region. During the winter months you
might also enjoy ice fishing at one of the nearby reservoirs. In Spanish,
'Nevada'
means 'snow-covered.' Northeast Nevada, in winter, often lives up to
the state's name.
The area also has a thriving arts community. Theatergoers can enjoy live theater at local area high schools including: Elko High School , Spring Creek High School, and Carlin High School. For theater with a collegiate flair join Great Basin College's theater department and its students for shows throughout the year.
For a diverse plate of theater from comedies to the latest Broadway and off-Broadway productions, join Elko's very own community theater group the Silver Stage Players with shows throughout the year. Performances are held in many different venues including; Northeastern Nevada Museum, Cowboy Joe Eastside, the Elko Convention Center, the Great Basin College Theater, the Eureka Opera House, the Elko City Park, Stockmens Hotel and Casino, and some even more eclectic settings.
